Founded in 2018, Desire to Aspire (D2A) is a registered Public Benevolent Institution dedicated to providing holistic support to disadvantaged, predominantly Indigenous youth. We aim to alleviate suffering and increase self-esteem and well-being through a range of assistance services designed to make a lasting positive impact on their lives.
The board members of Desire to Aspire are an Indigenous family, traditionally from the Wheatbelt who have a strong desire to help their people in a charitable sense, whilst also being passionate about the environment.
The board members have a long history of being in business in various fields and have used their collective strengths and experience to start and grow the foundations of D2A to become a recognised and respected NFP in the future.
The Nursery was started to be a social enterprise to provide the revenue source to fund the D2A programs. The board members made the choice not to be reliant on haphazard or non-guaranteed Govt funding. The Nursery was started to be a social enterprise to provide the revenue source to fund the D2A programs. The board members made the choice not to be reliant on haphazard or non-guaranteed Govt funding. They wanted to ensure a strong business model that could enable D2A to grow and assist the number of Indigenous youth that need the help their programs are designed to provide, whether that be from driver's licenses to crisis support to talent support.
The board members were able to see the need for larger volumes of native plants to support the growing number of large-scale revegetation projects planned for the Wheatbelt area. They then set about creating the foundations needed to support a new nursery, with the capacity to support the growth of 5 million native plants each year.
There is an exciting future in the native plant/biodiverse revegetation market and the Native Spirit Nursery would like to grow and expand to meet the expected demand in the near future. To do that we have plans to implement the following on our first 4 hectares of land in Wanneroo, within the first 12 months:

To do that we have plans to implement the following on our first 4 hectares of land in Wanneroo, within the first 12 months:
Native Spirit Nursery is a 100% Indigenous-owned social enterprise. Established in 2022 to specialise in the growing of Western Australian native plants.
We have set up the initial infrastructure to accommodate the growing of 5 million plants, across 160 different species, each year. We believe this will be the largest native plant nursery in WA. The nursery will mostly be supplying large-scale revegetation projects across the Wheatbelt Region of WA and Commercial and Government customers. During 2024, we plan to open a small retail shop and cafe, to sell plants and Aboriginal art and crafts to the public.
As a social enterprise, the profits generated are being reinvested back into D2A to fund their critical programs, which are to support disadvantaged Indigenous youth across several different areas. One of the main programs to benefit will be the Driving Force Academy, which has an ambitious target of providing 700 drivers licenses each year to disadvantaged Indigenous youth. Further information about the D2A programs can be found on their website.
After several years of research and planning, we aim for the Native Spirit Nursery to become one of the leading producers and suppliers of quality native plants for both revegetation and landscape projects throughout Western Australia.
Located in Wanneroo with an Indigenous workforce of 15 staff, 10 of whom are trainees on a mission to change the direction of their lives by working with nature, on the country to heal both themselves and their land. Our aim is to heal the spirit of our trainee staff, whilst we heal the spirit of the land through our native plants, hence why we have named this business the Native Spirit Nursery.
The Nursery has a unique 'Sponsor A Tree' initiative, designed to provide maximum transparency and will lead to further value for the Sponsors.
Further value is added by providing a pathway to carbon offsets (ACCUs), for our Sponsorship Partners, who may be looking to meet their ESG and/or RAP targets. By partnering with the Nursery, an organisation is able to allocate the engagement and donations towards their Environment and Social targets as well as their Indigenous engagement objectives.
Each $5 donated to D2A, pays for the sponsorship of a seedling. As an example, if you choose to donate $1000, you can opt to sponsor 200 seedlings. Each seedling is allocated a unique bar code, which is tracked through its journey from seed to mature tree. The tracking capability will mean the sponsor will know exactly what stage their seedling is at and eventually exactly where their tree is finally planted. Once the tree is planted on a revegetation project, the project will be viewable on the RESTOR app. RESTOR uses satellite imagery to provide live visuals of the project, allowing the sponsors to view the progress of the forest at any time.
Those sponsors will then receive a $5 discount from the market price per ACCU, according to how many seedlings were initially sponsored, eg if 200 seedlings were sponsored, then a $5 discount applies to each of the 200 ACCUs if purchased from our partnering carbon company, Carbon Offsets Australia. If the market price is $30 per ACCU, the Sponsor can purchase 200 ACCUs for $25.
We believe this is the only initiative of its kind, which will allow each Sponsor the ability to see and track where their support is and what it has achieved at any time. See the flowchart explaining the process of the Sponsor A Tree initiative above.
The button below will take you directly to the Make a Donation page on the D2A website. All donations are 100% tax deductable and a reciept of the transation is generated automatically at the time of payment.
Once you have made a donation and you wish to allocate it to the Sponsor A Tree Initiative, please email sales@nativespiritnursery.com.au with the receipt and request your donation be allocated to this Initiative.
